Dear Author,

Coming up with prompts is fun for me, but I’m totally fine if you get your own idea. I love surprises and look forward to reading whatever you come up with. Thank you so much for writing something for me!

Challenge #6

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a show, a specific TV episode, a storyline, a book or series, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

The tsunami arc on 9-1-1! I am such a sucker for action/adventure and that trope where characters can't get in contact with each other during a crisis and fear the worst. I convinced someone to try the show, and it was hilarious watching this episode with them because they kept threatening to quit forever if Christopher was dead. I remember that better than my own fear for the characters at the time. It was such a fun plot. The special effects, the many crises that emerged as consequences of the event, all of the heroism and character moments, and of course Buck's search for Christopher. It's still my favorite arc of the show. I wonder if anything that comes out of the network change will top it.

Challenge #5

Search in your current space, whether brick-and-mortar or digital. Post a picture (a link to a picture will be fine!) or description of something that is or represents:

1. Something your favorite character would like

Yellow vegan leather Valery journal.

I think "Dear Diary" Stefan Salvatore would like my new journal. Probably not the color. But the 'I'm having deep thoughts and need to record them while brooding handsomely' energy behind the vegan leather.

Challenge #4

IceBreaker Challenge! Tell us about yourself.

(I went with the Random Question Generator suggestion.)

What is the most recent silly thing you did?

My sister bought me the Don’t Wake Daddy board game to troll me on Christmas. Jamie Lee Curtis repeatedly talking about trauma is me talking about playing that game as a child. I didn’t think it would still get me like it did as a kid. Welp. A group of us played it, and I legit jumped or screamed every… single… time that Daddy snapped awake. As fun and horrifying as I remember. Highly recommend playing it again as an adult. The trauma is real and kind of glorious.

Challenge #3

Create a wish list of fandom things (podfic, graphics, playlists, canon recs translations, research help, vids, sky's the limit!) that you'd like to receive.

Fic Recs: Supernatural Gen! I feel myself headed for a rewatch of season one, and I know I'm going to be in the mood to read once I get into that space. Monster fic, angst fic, humor, the Winchesters getting into any kind of canon-typical trouble. I love both long and short fic, case fic, action/adventure, horror. Anything that vibes with the earlier seasons or takes place later in the series is both fun.

Book Recs: Thriller novels written by women. I have a few on my TBR, but I want more! Author recs in general if they've written a bunch worth checking out are also welcome.

Icons: I am back in a deep hole of Vampire Diaries feels. I am always on the hunt for more TVD icons. I have a lot in my stash, lol. Some characters I have less of: Matt (I've found so few!), Tyler, Jeremy; Combos: Jeremy/Tyler, Stefan/Caroline, Damon/Elena, Bonnie & Caroline & Elena (I love this trio, plus any of the girls & Matt), Damon & Liz. Also, I always love icons with quotes!

Pictures: I like chubby animals and can always use a laugh! Hippos, marmots, seals, anything really. It's a fast way to a huge smile. :D

Challenge #2

In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

Reading: I've lowered the number of physical books that I own that I haven't read yet down to fifteen. I want to get that number down to zero!

Writing: I'm a Backpacker in GYWO this year, so I need to write 120 days. I'd also like to try doing word sprints on Discord. I've never used Discord, but I love virtual write-ins on YouTube so I think it's worth trying out. After I figure out how to use Discord. lol

Fandom: I want to do more fests and bingos, both reading and writing! I always have fun when I do those. And I want to try playing Yahtzee over at Get Your Words Out. I always wash out after getting my prompts. So my goal this year is to get prompts and then, you know, actually follow through. lol Basically, my fandom goals this year are to follow my joy and have fun.

That's a wrap on Round 4. Third time was the charm for me! I go through stretches where I don't read much fic, if any, and this challenge is fun because it reminds me to go do that hobby I like. Even when I am reading fic, I'm such a mood reader that getting a bingo isn't necessarily possible even if I've read a lot because I haven't read something that matches the prompts. Read some great fic this round looking for stuff to fill the squares. One of my favorite fandom challenges because it invites fun, not stress, to finish. I'm looking forward to more of that when the next round of [community profile] comment_bingo starts up in January, I think.

I didn't sign up this year, but I found a bunch of fun stuff in the Fic in a Box Collection. I'll come back after creator reveals and edit in who made what. (Edit: Done.) More fic and an assortment of cool non-fic stuff under the cut.

Bonnie Bennett/Kai
Fic

She kills him every single day. At some point, he stops hating it.

Note: Fantastic introspection for Kai during his time alone with Bonnie in the 1994 prison world. I especially loved the flashbacks to his childhood. It was a sad and super interesting look at the road fate took him down. Made me wonder who he would have become if not for the inevitable merge and if he weren't born to siphon magic. Nature/nurture. Would he have still ended up in that prison world? Maybe. Kai with regular magic could have still become power-hungry/corrupted. All that to say, I really enjoyed this fic and it made me think.

I got a bingo! I can't believe I actually got one swinging in at the eleventh hour. I've never managed to get a bingo on any of the writing or reading ones I've tried over the years. I always either forget I signed up, lose steam after filling two or three squares, or get derailed by RL. So I am WAY more excited by this than it warrants. LOL Can't wait for the next [community profile] comment_bingo round! Yay. :D

Dear Author,

Happy Yuletide! I love surprises, so don’t worry if you get an idea that deviates from some of the ideas I throw out. I'll be happy to read anything you come up with, including anything Christmas themed or leaning into seasonal winter stuff and holiday festivities. Treats are welcome. Thank you so much for writing something for me!

Prompt #5: Goldenrod! These have an ability to survive in harsh environments, so it made me think of some of my favorite fandoms where characters have to survive monsters, predators, lack of resources, hunger, and despair. Below are some of my favorites.

Prompt #4: Daisy! The meaning of a daisy flower can be purity, innocence, new beginnings, joy and cheerfulness.

That has Kaylee written all over it! She will always be one of my faves for her light and sweetness and all the laughs. I'm always drawn to characters that fit this mold because no matter what other chaotic/tragic/horrific thing might be going on in the story, Kaylee and characters like her can bring comic relief or warmth or heart through the bleakness. They're also just fun even if they're in a sitcom setting and the stakes are low! (I'm looking at you, Sue Heck.)

Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill as Superman.

My mind jumped to Clark Kent as soon as I read this part of the second prompt: gladioli represent strength of character, faithfulness, moral integrity. He's too humble to slap that in his Twitter bio, but the cape fits.

Dear Author,

I love Halloween! Halloween-themed fic would be great, but it’s definitely not necessary. Thank you so much for writing something for me! I love surprises, so don’t worry if you get an idea that deviates from some of the thoughts I throw out. If you think a trick prompt could be written as a treat or the other way around, go for it. I’m excited to see what you come up with!
