The setup for this exchange is so much fun. I’ve included ideas for fics on the shorter side if you want to break the 10K up into smaller bits and because I’m opting into drabbles, and I’ve also included prompts for ideas that can hopefully fill the whole 10K if you’re hoping to write one longer work. If you think a short prompt could go longer or a longer prompt could be written shorter, don’t let my guesses at the idea’s length restrict you. I like both short and long fic and love surprises, so I’ll be excited to read anything you come up with. Thank you so much for writing something for me!

Matt/Foggy

Best friends to lovers is one of my favorite dynamics, and these two deliver the perfect foundation for it. I love how much they love each other, how much they laugh together, how much light Foggy brings to Matt’s often dark and complicated life. I love Matt being protective, his faith and moral compass. I love Foggy’s competence and integrity, their friendship with Karen, and all of them working together at Nelson, Murdock and Page. Feel free to set this whenever, back in their school days, post-season one, post-canon, all good.

Note: I love Matt & Foggy & Karen, Matt & Sister Maggie, Matt & Father Lantom, Foggy & Brett, Foggy & Claire. Anything where Matt or Karen interact with Foggy’s family.

Short Fic Prompts:

Outsider POV - Karen figures out that Matt and Foggy are in love with each other before Matt and Foggy figure it out.

Pre-ship - Foggy gets a dog since Matt won’t, and they slip into referring to him/her as their son/daughter.

The first time they say they love each other without saying the actual words.

Karen disappears during Infinity War. Does Foggy? Or is Matt just terrified that he will?

Longer Fic Prompts:

Soulmate AU - A misunderstanding makes Foggy and Brett believe they’re soulmates. Cue Matt pining and being a jealous, sad duck, but of course he’s Foggy’s actual soulmate. They figure it out.

Impossible Moral Dilemma + Captivity - Bad guys lock Matt in a room with Foggy. Visible in the next room is a child. They instruct him to kill Foggy or they will kill the kid. Emotionally tortured Matt, brave Foggy, breakdowns, desperation, all that good stuff.

Foggy gets evicted and stays with Matt while he apartment hunts. Matt thinks he should take his time finding a place; Foggy thinks he should hurry up. It used to be a lot easier pretending not to be in love with him back in law school, right?

Matt and Karen have to go to the morgue to identify a body they’re told is Foggy. Karen looks and says it is. Matt uses his senses and says it isn’t. What’s going on? Where’s the real Foggy? How and why did somebody get a perfect copy of him to fake his death?

“You know the one thing that you just can’t see? You know you’re one bad day away from being me.” - Frank, 2x03 | What does that one bad day look like that pushes Matt over the edge?

Wilson Fisk/James Wesley

The loyaltyyyy in this ship. I can’t. I adore the mutual respect, how Fisk depends on Wesley, and Wesley’s unconditional devotion to Fisk. I love getting to see the villains’ perspective, how they’re the good guys from their own point of view, and their twisted, dark logic/justifications for the evil they commit or plan to do. I like Wesley not being afraid of Fisk’s temper and Fisk’s gentle, genuine love for him. While I loved seeing his canon grief, I’d prefer if Wesley was alive in the fic. Up to you whether it’s set before his death or in an AU where he doesn’t die/survives getting shot by Karen. Depending on when you want to set it, I’m alright with Vanessa being included as a friend, someone he amicably parted from in the past, or not being mentioned at all/an AU where they never meet. I’d prefer no infidelity or love triangle.

Short Fic Prompts:

Backstory - Falling into loyalty before falling in love. The moment Wesley became devoted to Fisk.

Dark Fluff - So, like, something sweet happening while bloody or after a murder, during body disposal, while holding someone at gunpoint, threatening someone as a romantic gesture, that kind of thing.

Overworked, Wesley accidentally falls asleep against Fisk’s side on a plane/train/at a symphony/anywhere semipublic. Fisk doesn’t mind.

Wesley is always there for Fisk. I’d like to see a time when Fisk was there for Wesley.

Wesley disappears during Infinity War. Their reunion post-Endgame.

Longer Fic Prompts:

Watching Helplessly - Trapped in a separate room, Fisk is forced to watch Wesley be hurt and goes berserk. Bonus if he’s incredibly gentle with Wesley when he gets to him in contrast with his big rage over it.

Pre-Ship/Get-Together - A new man begins trying to court Wesley. Fisk reacts poorly to this. Very poorly.

AU where Wesley lived and was sent to prison with Fisk. Does Fisk arrange to be cellmates? How does it change things inside?

Apocalypse - Meteor headed for Earth (or whatever)! Fisk gets a ticket to some bunker/shuttle/safety of some kind. Wesley prepares to say goodbye. Meanwhile, Fisk is baffled because obviously he’s taking Wesley with him. One ticket or not, Kingpin always has a plan.

Dex/Julie

I’d love to see where things could have gone for them if Julie had a longer run on the show. I love the idea of, with Julie’s help, Dex fighting his darker instincts and maintaining some level of careful control over his violent/sociopathic instincts. But I also love the idea that even with her help, he gives into that dark side of himself and the two of them fall down a twisted, codependent criminal path together (him for the things he does and her as an accessory for never turning him in). I’d rather Julie not lose her inherent “goodness” as he calls it if you go that route because I really love the dynamic of a bad guy loving/being deeply obsessed with someone kind/gentle/good-hearted and her struggling with both her moral compass and her inability to stop caring about him despite the evil things he does. Totally fine with fic that skews as dark or dark fluff.

Short Fic Prompts:

Julie surprises Dex by calling him in the middle of the night because she heard a noise. Dex surprises Julie by showing up and volunteering to sleep on her couch so she can go back to sleep. Bonus if she falls asleep on the couch with him.

During some point of danger when Dex’s loyalties are being tested between Fisk and Julie, she says he can “keep” her. I love the idea that her giving him permission to be as possessive as he wants ends up being the thing that tips him over fully against the threat and on her side and motivates him to get them out of whatever trouble they’re in.

Dex assumes that Julie will abandon him, but Julie proves her loyalty to him in a moment when Daredevil or the police are closing in.

Dex being gentle and sweet with Julie, careful and kind out of respect and affection + Dex being vicious and merciless, angry or disdainful towards everyone else. Anything that showed that contrast.

Another man hits on Julie in front of Dex, and she notices a dangerous shift in him.

Longer Fic Prompts:

From the episode 3x10 “Karen” in a scenario where Fisk never attacked Julie - Dex didn’t know Julie was at the church when he attacks Karen and Matt there. He has to give up on his mission and get her out of there when she accidentally gets badly hurt. Hurt/Comfort, angst, guilt/anger at himself, apologies, panic: that kind of thing.

5 + 1 - Five times Julie was able to stop Dex from going over the edge, and one time she encouraged him to kill someone to save both of their lives.

Captivity - Fisk locks Dex and Julie up when he refuses to do something for him, and Julie is injured while they’re imprisoned. Dex has to care for her and keep her safe. I’d love her taking comfort from him with bed sharing or hiding behind him when their captor enters, depending on him for protection, stuff like that.

Julie gets mad at Dex when she discovers cameras in her apartment, but Dex’s anger (and possessiveness) far surpasses hers because he didn’t put those cameras there. Whoever did has a target on them now.

The Defenders (Marvel TV)
Luke Cage/Danny Rand

Their meet-cute is endlessly hilarious to me, just how completely outmatched Danny is before he goes glowy. I love these two as a battle couple. Their fighting styles, strengths and weaknesses complement each other in such a fun way. I just love their progression from animosity to teammates to besties, their funny camaraderie and heartfelt connection. Great potential for friends to lovers, which I adore. Depending on when you want to set it, I’m fine with canon love interests being written as something that ended amicably already (no infidelity, please) or ignored altogether.

Other characters I love that might be useful: Misty, Ward, Matt, Foggy, Karen, Jessica, Claire, Turk.

Short Fic Prompts:

Anything that leads to them making out on top of a pool table.

Touch. Often. Casual. Noticed by others. Comfort or joking around. Arms around the shoulders, talking or sitting too closely, leaning against each other, hand pats that kind of linger. Any and all touching before they sort themselves out is fun.

First Kiss - Tension, denial, UST, shyness or hesitation. Or maybe it happens in a light moment, laughing or celebrating/goofing off and then oops, they’re kissing, and it’s not a joke anymore.

Oh no, did Luke strain himself throwing a truck at a bad guy? Danny automatically starting to massage his shoulders, and the absolutely married vibes they give off despite not being together. Yet.

Longer Fic Prompts:

A magazine profiles Danny for its cover story, and when the article comes out it names Luke Cage as his boyfriend based on incorrect assumptions from the way they spoke and interacted while the journalist followed him around for the interview. Shoddy journalism? Yeah. But I want other people’s reactions, whether it’s snort laughing or totally buying it or ‘oh hey that explains their whole deal.’ How do Luke and Danny react to it themselves? Do they try to laugh it off? Does it lead to feelings realization? Bonus if Luke teases Danny through the photo shoot for the cover picture.

Luke is poisoned or hurt in some way on the inside, and Danny is extra about his fussing over him, hyper protective, irrationally defensive. Maybe Luke thinks it’s funny or is fond because he gets why Danny is being extra about it before he does. ~F e e l i n g s~ realization.

Time Loop - Danny goes to Luke for help when he’s stuck in one. It takes Luke a while to question why he never chooses to go to anyone else.

Zombie AU - Is Luke immune from bites? He would be, right? Well, Danny’s not. Protectiveness, close calls, a bite leading to an emergency amputation to stop the infection from spreading/turning him, hurt/comfort, facing a horde, action/suspense or the emotional toll of survival horror, the start of an outbreak or throw them in the thick of it, anything.

Haven (TV)
Duke Crocker/Nathan Wuornos

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite relationship dynamics, and this ship has that, plus some elements of enemies to lovers because of all the history between them. I love that they’ve known each other their whole lives and that they’ve been something different to each other at different points in their long relationship. I would prefer if Duke was alive, please. Totally up to you whether you set it earlier in the series, pre-series, or just pretend like his death never happened. I love their banter, the conflict between them, and the love that exists through all of that.

Short Fic Prompts:

Duke is hurt and wants Nathan to stay with him.

Their first kiss as teens juxtaposed with their first kiss as adults.

Duke is poisoned, and he’s charmed enough by Nathan’s fear/worry/fussing to almost forget how much pain he’s in.

Nathan says something out of bounds during an argument, surprising them both, but surprising them both even more by how quickly and sincerely he apologizes.

Longer Fic Prompts:

A Trouble shrinks Duke and Nathan down to a few inches. The world is kind of scary when you’re only as tall as an apple. Tiny!Duke and tiny!Nathan vs. Nature. Adventures in not getting stepped on. Is that someone mowing their lawn? Ahhhh! Humor, romance, adventure. I’m picturing them tiny, and it’s adorable.

Apocalypse - It’s the end of the world (meteor/sun swallowing the Earth, whatever), and Nathan wins a lottery ticket to safety (shelter/bunker/shuttle off-planet, anything). Duke throws Nathan a big celebratory farewell/We’re All Gonna Die party. How does it go? How do they say goodbye? Can Nathan leave him behind? Maybe they watch the world end together. Totally cool with a bittersweet ending.

Forced Proximity - A Trouble makes it excruciating for Duke to not be touching Nathan in some way. The pain escalates the longer it goes on until they’re basically handcuffed together for his own survival. Lots of hand holding? Nathan scowling but secretly liking it? Being alarmed by how much he likes it? How does Duke shower? Sleep?

A Trouble turns Duke into a merman. Banter and get-together romance? Yay. Angst from mermaid poachers after him/protective Nathan? Cool. I’m fine with Duke getting hurt or the threat of the poachers getting his tail but please no amputations, and I’d prefer if he got his legs back.

Jessica Jones (TV)
Erik Gelden/Jessica Jones

I love how tough Jessica is and how she’s cautious about her soft spots for people. She and Erik are on the same wavelength with their senses of humor and comfort operating in gray areas. I like that she connected with someone who was sweet to her, who struggled with his own abilities, and didn’t always make good choices either. She can come off very lonely, and I think he helped with that. I loved Erik’s relationship with his sister. They’re interactions felt funny and real. He and Jessica have both had to deal with a lot of dysfunction and family troubles, and the idea of them finding something stable and good with each other makes me happy.

Short Fic Prompts:

Hurt/Comfort - Jessica rubs Erik’s temples and comforts him when they get trapped in a room with someone evil.

Jessica likes being the big spoon.

Jessica being hyper protective of Erik. Grabbing someone’s fist before they can hit him? Shoving him out of the way of danger? Covering his body during a shooting?

Anything that highlights how much stronger Jessica is than Erik and how into that he is.

Erik’s ability put Trish at a five. What would happen if he and Jessica ran into or had to work with the Punisher? Would his head just explode? Lol

Erik earns Jessica’s trust.

Longer Fic Prompts:

The Defenders help Jessica when Erik is a damsel in distress, and they see a different side to her. A side where rage and fear are hard to tell apart.

Erik is buried alive. He can talk to Jessica on an untraceable phone but doesn’t know where he is, and he’s running out of air.

Erik’s ability starts working at a much farther range, uncontrollable, causing him a lot of pain, and Jessica quarantines him in her apartment.

Slice of Life - How Jessica partners with Erik at Alias Investigations, domesticity, hanging out at Josie’s, vulnerability, compatible humor, bumping into other heroes, being introduced as her boyfriend.

Jessica sees Matt making out with Foggy by the pool tables at Josie’s while having a drink with Erik, and the four of them end up on a sort of accidental double date.

Erik is framed for murder, and Jessica makes the practical decision to break him out of prison before his ability kills him, surrounded by all those bad people. Trying to clear his name while on the run! Turns out being fugitives is a hard-knock life.

LOST
Hurley/Miles

“I see dead people.” The Miles and Hurley motto. haha I don’t think two people have ever had more different personalities. The ultimate opposites attract. I love the contrast, how Hurley could soften Miles and Miles could keep Hurley focused and see things for what they really are. I adore how kind and friendly Hurley is and Miles’ perpetual acerbic/grumpy nature. They have the shared experience of communicating with dead people but handled it in totally different ways, and being lost in time together is a great foundation for friendship/trust/loyalty/love.

Note: I also love Sawyer/Juliet, Jack/Kate, Bernard/Rose, Daniel/Charlotte, Sun/Jin, Hurley & Anybody, I’m good with canon couples, love Sayid, Vincent, Richard, Jacob, Claire, Charlie, Boone, Lapidus, pretty much everyone, so feel free to use supporting characters if you need to.

Short Fic Prompts:

Outsider POV - Sawyer doesn’t get what’s up with Miles lately, snapping at him if he teases (insults) Hurley. Juliet is fond and explains.

Hurley and Miles bonding over communicating with the dead.

Hurley gets hurt because of someone else’s recklessness. Miles is used to being mad, but fear mixed up with anger is much worse.

Chased through the jungle by the smoke monster.

Longer Fic Prompts:

I love the 1970s Dharma Initiative era. Any kind of get-together fic set in that time period would be awesome.

Miles attempts to subtly flirt with Hurley. Hurley isn’t great at subtlety. He’s kind of left wondering what the hell is up with Miles.

AU where Miles was on Oceanic Flight 815.

Action/Adventure island mystery, a romp through the jungle, barricaded with other survivors, getting weapons to protect themselves/fight enemies on the way, any kind of canon typical adventure.

Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen
Catherine Morland/Henry Tilney

I am forever in love with these two. Or rather, I am forever in love with these two being in love with each other. The sweetness of their relationship is my weakness. Henry sweetly teasing Catherine or telling her a wild tale or spooking her in order to amuse/entertain/gently frighten her (in turn, amusing and entertaining himself)—and I'm happy. There's a gentleness between them and a beautiful compatibility that's warm and just makes me smile. I love Catherine's wild imagination, and I adore Henry and how kind he is to her. I would love all kinds of fic for this fandom: sweet moments, emotional turmoil, external conflict or emotional conflict followed by a happy ending. I'm always happy to spend time with these characters post-canon and see what they got up to or read missing scenes or canon divergent scenarios.

Short Fic Prompts:

To mess with Henry, his brother tells Catherine that Henry mocks her or only puts up with her company. She’s naive enough to believe him, and Henry is confused when she starts avoiding him/not meeting his eyes/looks sad around him after that.

While on a walk, Catherine slips and gets washed away in a stream that Henry thought would be safe to cross. Bonus if she can’t swim, and there’s panic/fear before being rescued.

Henry accidentally hurts Catherine's feelings when teasing her in public draws laughs at her from others. I feel like Henry might ultimately feel the most mortified in this scenario when he realizes that he did something that inadvertently hurt her. I love this for the pre-relationship stage or when they're already together.

Henry is surprised and bewildered when he realizes that Catherine is very angry with him, and he has no idea why. What did he do, or does she only think he did it?

Longer Fic Prompts:

What if Henry's brother had taken a liking to Catherine instead of Isabella? How would Henry have dealt with him continually flirting with her or trying to steal her affection?

5 + 1 / Amnesia - Five times Henry pined for/was hurt by Catherine’s memory loss while she’s nervous/skittish around him, and one time she gets her memory back. Some ideas: Catherine declining to dance with him but dancing with a man she remembers from her youth, hiding in the evening because she’s afraid he’ll want her to share a bed with him, wanting to move to her family home because she’s afraid to live with a man she doesn’t remember.

There’s a fire while they’re at the opera. Maybe they’re separated when it starts, and Henry has to find her through the smoke. I love Henry in worried/desperate mode.

Soulmate AU - Catherine doesn’t have a mark, which is what sparks her imagination to begin with, imagining a romance even better than a soulmate as a defense mechanism. Henry does, but cue the conflict when his soulmate Catherine Morland declares that she doesn’t believe in soulmates when they meet and gives no indication that she has his name as her mark. Misunderstandings and pining galore.

The Song of Achilles - Madeline Miller
Achilles/Patroclus

Their development is everything I love in friends to lovers ships. From Achilles' very early curiosity and Patroclus' animosity to their friendship to being fused at the hip to being the most loyal boyfriends ever. Their strengths and weaknesses complemented each other so well. I loved the no lying policy between them even when the subject was difficult, awkward or painful. The trust and loyalty and protectiveness, Patroclus following Achilles to the end of the earth when separated, and their determination to be together no matter what was all perfect. I'll love fic set at any point during the book if you want to do a missing scene or canon divergence fic where they both live.

Short Fic Prompts:

Anything that highlights the codependency between them. I am here for it.

I would LOVE to see an expansion of the scene in Chapter 22 when Patroclus can't sleep because he's just realized that he will have to fight now in the war. | The Fates had said nothing about me—nothing about how long I would live. I woke Achilles, in panic. "I will be there," he promised me. | Anything that showed his fear and panic and Achilles' calm comfort would be dearly loved.

A fight breaks out in camp, and Patroclus gets hit/knocked down/hurt. Achilles… reacts.

What if somebody had tried to make Patroclus move to the back when he sat next to Achilles in the front row of the first meeting of kings after arriving at the camp? How would Achilles have handled that?

Longer Fic Prompts:

Achilles wakes up to the sound of Patroclus screaming for him as an enemy soldier or several enemy soldiers attempt to drag him from the camp.

Five times Achilles wasn't subtle at all about being in love with Patroclus in front of people, and one time Patroclus realized everybody already knew they were together anyway. Angst, fear of homophobia, humorous or sweet tone; whichever way you want to take it.
